Canary Islands - Lanzarote

Just 68 miles from the coast of Africa, the beautiful island of Lanzarote is the fourth largest and hottest of the seven Canary islands. It is famous for its unique and dramatic landscape of lava fields in the National Park of Timanfaya and the spectacular Mountains del Fuego. However, whilst much of the landscape is lunar-like, the island also boasts superb beaches, such as Papagayo and Famara and some breathtaking scenery.

The island has many cultural attractions, interesting history and is still largely unspoilt with live local traditions and quaint villages where the visitor can sample local Canarian cuisine such as Gofio, Papas Arugadas and Mojo Salsa.

Three must-see attractions apart from Timanfaya National Park are El Mirador del Rio which provides spectacular views of the Chinijo Archipelago; Los Jameos del Agua, part of a 6 km long lava tube and El Jardin de Cactus. Lanzarote was also the home of the internationally renowned artist Cesar Manrique and many of his designs can be found all over the island, especially in the form of modernist sculptures

Above all, the island's biggest draw is its year round warm climate with around 11 hours of sunshine every day - and just four hours flying from the UK!
