The wonderful River Lodge located within the spectacular Lion Sands Private Game Reserve offers up the finest luxury safari experience. With gorgeous views at every turn, the lodge features a beautiful spa, a gym and delightful main swimming pool overlooking the bush. There is also a creative lab where guests are invited to transform the countless safari pictures, they will have no doubt taken during their stay, into treasured works of art.
From boma feasts to safari stops, dining here will certainly be a highlight of your trip. With a delectable blend of local cuisine and contemporary favourites, there is something for everyone. Enjoy bush breakfasts after a busy morning of wildlife sighting, let your hosts whisk you away to a secret bush location for an unforgettable dinner under the stars, dine traditional-style around the African Boma, indulge in a barbecue banquet along the riverbed while the choir sings and nature's night chorus joins in, or revel in a private feast from the comfort of your private deck surrounded by the sights and sounds of the pristine African wilderness. Every bite will be one to savour and can be accompanied by a fantastic selection of wines from the lodge’s collection of premium Cape labels.
Although the lodge is an unforgettable experience in itself, what really calls people here is the magnificent wildlife that roams free at every turn. Throughout the 12,400ha reserve you will be able to see all of Africa’s iconic species, including the Big Five, along with a supporting cast of 137 mammal species and over 450 varieties of bird. The area is particularly renowned for leopard viewing – usually the most elusive of predators – and other signature species include the African painted wolf and the endangered pangolin. Thrilling morning and evening safari game drives in exclusive vehicles with cushioned bucket seats, blankets, ponchos and a maximum of 6 guests will give you a front-row seat to the greatest show on earth! Accompanied by expert guides and trackers you will find yourself fully immersed in the wonders all around. And there’s always time to stop at a scenic spot for snacks and drinks in the wilderness. Private safaris, stargazing safaris and bushwalks are also available.
Treehouse experiences are another highlight here, and guests can book a bespoke sleepover under the stars with free-flowing drinks and delicious food enjoyed under the stars surrounded by the sights and sounds of the surrounding wildlife. Guests are also welcome to join the reserve’s Community Tours to learn all about the reserve’s community initiatives and foundations.
There’s plenty for the family to do here too, with the Mack & Madi Kids’ Adventure Explorers Club offering an all-round family safari experience. Please note: River Lodge is suitable for guests aged 10 and over. Alternative lodges are available for younger safari-goers.
