The island’s remarkable hidden gem, Southern Sardinia lures visitors with its pristine and uncrowded beaches, dramatic landscapes of mountains and forests, its surprisingly diverse wildlife and character-filled towns. Although the atmosphere is more laid-back than the more popular northern resorts, there is still plenty to see and do here. From exploring around prehistoric sites to soaking up the culture in one of the attractive medieval towns, blissful days can be spent simply walking around, lazing on the beach or enjoying the fantastic cuisine on offer everywhere you turn.

For beach lovers the areas of Villasimius, Costa Rei, Solanas & Porto Sa Ruxi serve up some of the most alluring coastline on the whole island, with the more popular area of Villasimius offering a great selection of restaurants, bars and family-friendly activities along long sandy beaches that are almost tropical in their beauty. Watersports, cycling, hiking, horse riding and coastal walks are all popular activities here in this wonderfully underdeveloped part of the island, and for the kids there is an excellent waterpark that will keep them entertained all day.

Southern Sardinia is also home to the island’s impressive capital city of Cagliari. The vibrant and thriving port and old town are definitely worth a visit, with highlights including the medieval walls, Citadelle dei Musei, the grand Pisan Towers and battlements and the Cathedral di Santa Maria.
