Shamwari Private Game Reserve is well renowned for its big game viewing opportunities and activities here are understandably centred around this. Game Drives in open safari 4x4 vehicles are offered at sunrise and sunset and will allow you to explore around the reserve in search of sightings of everything from the Big 5 (elephant, buffalo, lion, rhino and leopard) to the myriad of birdlife within the reserve. Your expert guide will offer insight throughout your drive including information on the animal’s habitats and the history of the area. You can track the animals using traditional methods and learn all about the area’s biomes which sustain and bolster a healthy population of animal species.
In addition to game drives, professionally guided bush walks are also available and offer a different perspective of the fauna and flora indigenous to the region. Overnight explorer trails are also an option.
One of the highlights of a stay at Shamwari is having access to the fantastic conservation programmes that are prevalent here. For over 25 years, conservation and sustainable tourism has been at the heart of the reserve’s practices and you can visit the two unique Born Free Foundation sanctuaries within the reserve, as well as the Shamwari Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, for an emotional and enlightening experience that offers an authentic insight into the fight to protect some of Africa’s most vulnerable species.
When not on safari, guests can enjoy a visit to the lodge’s very own wellness spa where a wide range of excellent spa treatments are available. The main lodge, swimming pool and deck overlooks a busy waterhole and guests can enjoy delicious meals served either at private tables in the restaurant or boma-style with fellow safari adventurers. There is also a gift boutique where you can pick up some local souvenirs and crafts.
Please Note: Bayethe Lodge is suitable for guests aged 12 and over. Alternative lodges are available for younger safari-goers.
